Superbowl 51: The Ads
This Superbowl was historic: it was the first time I was ever more interested in the game than the ads. And yet, I still managed to fall asleep while the Falcons were winning…
The general consensus about this year’s ads is that they left much to be desired (source: Twitter). I have to agree in a sense. There was just one (or maybe two?) ads that were laugh out loud funny, and there were no Clydesdales. Fine.
But what I did notice and very much appreciate was a consistent messaging of inclusiveness. These ads spoke to the majority of American’s who did not vote for the current administration and who may feel disenfranchised by the anti-[fill in the blank] sentiment that our current President has expressed.
These ads lack the shock value or the slap-stick humor that we have seen in past years’ Superbowl ads, but they are noteworthy and important in the messaging of inclusion they share after such a divisive election year.
